Isabella Lee

Songwriters of Tomorrow Scholarship, 2021

Isabella Lee is a Korean-American singer-songwriter and current senior at Stuyvesant High School in New York City.

Having been raised by a classical musician, music was always a part of her life. Her earliest songs were written to the gentle sounds of her mother’s nightly piano-playing. She has drawn inspiration from New York City’s incessant musical buzz, from the jazz musicians at Washington Square Park to the steelpan instrumentalists at Penn Station.

Her love for poetry shapes her ambiguous songwriting style. Rather than telling a single story, Lee hopes that her listeners will develop personal narratives within her lyrics and melodies and perhaps help them find comfort, even if it be just for the duration of a song.
